The story of CRISIS is in homes across the country -- homes where a family member has lost a job, where parents are struggling to pay a mortgage, and where individuals are making the choice between food and life sustaining medication. But these types of situations are not new ones. For over 20 years CRISISline has answered the cries of many Americans right here in Greenville County struggling to make ends meet, looking for shelter from the rain, and overwhelmed with the tasks of life. CRISISline is a free and confidential 24/7 hotline offering support, information and referral, and crisis intervention. Volunteers are an essential component to the CRISISline program but more importantly they are the reassuring voice, the listening ear, and often the bridge to hope for many of our neighbors in crisis. Will you be that listening ear? Become a CRISISline volunteer. Training starts in June. No experience required. Non-judgmental attitude, excellent listening skills, and an ability to empathize and do heart work essential. For more information call 864-467-3347 or email volunteer@mhagc.org. WE'RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
We believe everyone should be able to fulfill their potential — and not limit themselves on what that potential can be. That's why our programs help build confidence — whether it's through public education on mental illness awareness, depression screenings, CRISISline, TEENline, (which are open 24/7) Reassurance Line, providing our Consumers with a home, or SOS (Survivors of Suicide) a program which helps people re-enter life after a shattering life experience. We know that the more people who get involved in their own wellness and recovery, the more successful it is.
Clearly, we are making a big difference — and now we need you to make a difference for us. We need your help to keep our programs flourishing while state budgets are tightening.
In fact, when economic times are tough, MHAGC's services are needed most of all. Calls to our CRISISline from people seeking help are up over 50%.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOO
As someone who's taken an interest in MHAGC, we're asking you to make a year-end donation so that our programs can not only continue, but grow. A tax-deductible contribution of $100 — just a little over .27 cents a day for the year — can make a dramatic difference to the people we serve. Of course, any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated and will help change lives for the better.
If you have a car, whether it runs or not, we will take it. This will give you a 100% tax write off and allow us to sell the car for additional funds.
From all of us at MHAGC, we wish you and your loved ones a happy and joyous Holiday Season and our best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and generous New Year. |
