A suicide takes someone
we love and leaves us with
many questions unanswered.
No one understands like
someone who has experienced it.

What is SOS?
SOS is a self-help support group for adults who have lost a family member, friend or relative to suicide and would like the comfort and understanding of others who have suffered a similar loss. SOS is associated with the CRISISline program of the Mental Health Association of Greenville County. There are no dues or fees.

What is the purpose of SOS?
The purpose of the group is to offer comfort, friendship and support to those who have lost loved ones to suicide. SOS provides programs, services, and outreach to families, friends, and the community. The group networks and forms coalitions with public services that often deal with suicide.

When and Where?
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 4000 Hwy 153 in Powdersville. For directions click HERE or call Michelle Gilbert at (864) 467-3598. Call CRISISline at (864) 271-8888 for more information.

How Does SOS Help?
The group promotes an accepting atmosphere where one can openly express feelings. Members work toward developing a positive resolution to the grief experience and strengthening emotional health.

How Can I Join SOS?
You can join by calling CRISISline at (864) 271-8888. CRISISline can answer any questions you may have and tell you when the next meeting is scheduled. The only requirement is that at some point in your life a family member, relative, or friend has been lost to suicide.

What Happens at an SOS Meeting?
SOS meetings are held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Adults are invited to share their feelings or simply listen. Meetings are facilitated by survivors. Guest speakers are occasionally invited to address specific topics. Each meeting includes a sharing time.
