This presentation explores the complex and evolving relationship between social media and youth development. Drawing on current research and clinical insights, the session will examine the psychological, emotional, and social effects of social media use among adolescents. Topics will include the impact on self-esteem and body image, the role of algorithms in shaping identity and behavior, and links to anxiety, depression, and sleep disruption. The presentation will also address protective factors, digital literacy, and strategies for caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals to support healthy media use. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of both the risks and opportunities that social media presents for today’s youth.
