Dear Friends,

As summer slips into a new school year, we’re reminded that mental health doesn’t take a break. Behind every backpack, every workday, every quiet moment—someone may be carrying more than they let on. At Mental Health America of Greenville County, we believe in meeting people where they are, with care, compassion, and community. This month, we’re sharing stories that speak to the heart: about students facing today’s pressures, about the courage it takes to speak openly about mental health, and about how a simple act of kindness—like a gift bag filled with comfort—can remind someone they’re not alone.

Back to School with Mental Health
The youth mental health crisis is ongoing due to the lingering effects of the pandemic, social isolation, and upheaval, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and suicide rates among teens. We continue to support students as they return to school, highlighting educational and counseling services, local mental health organizations, and community resources available to them.

Christmas in July: Operation Santa Kicks off Now!
A little holiday magic goes a long way — all year long. Operation Santa Claus may start in December, but its impact lasts well beyond the season. From gift bags filled with comfort and care to year-round surprises that brighten someone’s day, this program reminds adults living with mental illness that they’re seen, valued, and not alone. We’d love to have you join us.

The Choice to Share: Navigating Mental Health Disclosure
How do you share something as personal—and often misunderstood—as a mental health diagnosis? In a world where oversharing is common but true connection is rare, our contributing writer offers an honest reflection on the risks, fears, and quiet strength behind the decision to disclose a deeply personal journey. Whether you’ve just received a diagnosis, love someone who has, or simply want to better understand what disclosure really means, this piece explores the complexity of these conversations with compassion and care. These moments aren’t always easy—but they matter.
At the end of the day, it’s the small things that matter most—a listening ear, a shared story, a little surprise that says “you’re seen.” Whether you’re someone who gives support or someone who needs it (and let’s be honest, most of us are both), we hope this month’s stories offer you a sense of connection, comfort, and quiet strength.
Next month is Suicide Awareness Month. We invite you to join us as we work to educate and break down stigma through events and resources shared all month long. Be sure to bookmark our calendar and follow us on social media for the latest updates.
Thank you for being part of this community. You help make the world a gentler place—one caring moment at a time.
With Gratitude,
