Mental Health America of Greenville County (MHAGC) has sponsored Operation Santa Claus since the mid 1950's. This project gives volunteers in our chapter, civic and community groups, and other interested citizens a chance to add a special touch of joy to the lives of those who are often forgotten, individuals receiving psychiatric services in long-term programs of the SC Department of Mental Health; aftercare programs at Greenville Mental Health Center and Piedmont Center for Mental Health Services, local community care homes, and psychiatric hospitals.
Every year, individuals and organizations donate items for Operation Santa Claus. These items include basic necessities such as toiletries and socks, items that are not always accessible for those in need. Financial contributions are also needed to purchase gifts to meet specific requests. Past financial support has enabled us to provide alarm clocks, umbrellas, and rain ponchos. Many individuals in our local community care would not own these basic items without this program. Being able to provide gifts to these individuals, Operation Santa Claus provides a special gift, the gift of having been remembered by someone during the holidays.
