Two state events coming up in late February and early March give South Carolina community members an opportunity to convene, learn, and advocate toward better mental health and suicide prevention in our state. Both events take place in Columbia. Details and registration links are included below.
Hope Rising in South Carolina 2024

South Carolina Capitol Day 2024
Hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – South Carolina Chapter, South Carolina Department of Mental Health, Mental Health America of South Carolina, and NAMI South Carolina, the State Capitol Day event brings together passionate volunteers to advocate for state policy changes that will improve mental health and prevent suicide.

When: March 6, 2024, 9:00am-12:00pm (remarks begin at 10:00am)
Where: SC State House (1100 Gervais St, Columbia, SC) back steps
Registration closes March 3, 2024.
Meets with state legislators will follow the rally for the following purposes:
- Share with them why suicide prevention is important to YOU and to your community
- Educate them about the work being done in your community to prevent suicide
- Teach them what more must be done to prevent suicide.
The event will include a brief training session on the basics of an effective advocacy visit and current policy issues impacting suicide prevention. Advocates will have the opportunity to attend meetings with state legislators that will be scheduled ahead of time.
