May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Mental Health America of Greenville County, we’re focusing on a simple but powerful idea: building strength through connection.
Mental health isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are “good days.” For some, a good day feels productive and energized. For others, it may simply feel calm, manageable, or steady—and that counts just as much. This month is about meeting people where they are and recognizing that every version of “good” is valid.

So how do we begin building more of those good days?
It starts with defining what “good” means to you. Taking a moment to reflect on what a good day looks like in your own life can be a powerful first step. And if that question feels difficult—or even out of reach—you’re not alone. Support is available, and one simple way to check in with yourself is through a free, quick, and confidential mental health screening at Mental Health America Screening Tools.
From there, it’s important to care for your whole self. Mental health and physical health are deeply connected, influencing each other in ways we often overlook. Sleep, stress, relationships, nutrition, and even our environment all play a role. While some factors are beyond our control, small, intentional choices—like moving your body in ways you enjoy, staying hydrated, or reaching out to someone you trust—can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes even noticing what your body is telling you is a step toward better well-being.
But building more good days isn’t something we have to do alone. In fact, connection is one of the most powerful tools we have. A quick check-in, a shared conversation, or a moment of genuine listening can ease stress and remind us that we’re not alone in what we’re feeling. When we support one another, we create stronger, healthier communities. And for those who want to take it a step further, you can join a broader movement for change through Mental Health America Advocacy Network, helping expand access to care and connection for people across the country.

As you move through May, remember that your path to well-being is your own. What brings you peace, joy, or comfort may look different from someone else—and that’s exactly how it should be. Too often, we put our own needs on the back burner while caring for others. This month is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what helps you feel your best, whether that’s rest, creativity, time outdoors, or simply a quiet moment to breathe.
The path may look different for each of us, but we all deserve more good days—together.
