Even in the heat of summer, the team at Mental Health America of Greenville County is already looking ahead to the holidays — and how we can bring a little hope and dignity to those who need it most.
Each year, Operation Santa Claus delivers hundreds of gift bags filled with winter essentials, personal care items, and thoughtful treats to adults living with mental illness across the Upstate. These gifts are more than just kind gestures — for many of our neighbors, they may be the only presents they receive all year.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and volunteers, we served 513 individuals across 7 partner organizations in 4 counties last year. Each gift bag was lovingly packed by volunteers and filled with items like cozy socks, hygiene supplies, warm scarves, puzzle books, snacks, and more — all chosen to bring both comfort and a sense of being seen and cared for.
But the magic doesn’t end in December.
Our partner organizations often keep a portion of the gifts to distribute throughout the year — welcoming new clients, marking milestones, or simply offering a surprise boost when someone needs it most. It’s a simple way to spread joy far beyond the holiday season.
As the needs in our community grow, so does our commitment. This year, we’re expanding our efforts to support our neighbors in Greenville County and beyond — and we’re already getting to work. Because bringing light into someone’s life takes intention, compassion, and year-round planning.

Donations are accepted Monday through Friday, 9:00 am–3:00 pm at our office. - Shop our Amazon Wishlist and have gifts shipped directly to us.
