Last month, members of MHAGC’s AmeriCorps State Service Program gathered with agency staff and program officers from the South Carolina Service Commission (SCSC) for the first seminar in a Self-Care Series, developed as part of the personal and professional development opportunities provided to AmeriCorps members during their year of service at MHAGC.
The January 2024 seminar, the first in the series, was led by Sarah Troy of Winding Willow Therapies and focused on the topic of gratitude. Troy gave her time and talents to help boost resilience and support the staff and AmeriCorps members as they serve on MHAGC’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline call center. February’s seminar will involve approaching mental wellness with creativity and curiosity. Additional topics are under consideration for future seminars, such as music, meditation, financial wellness, and more.
Program Director, Theresa Alvarez, is grateful for Troy’s contribution to the series and hopes to engage other community members and professionals in continuing the program on a monthly basis through June 2024 ahead of members’ graduation from the program in July 2024. Alvarez invites those who may wish to sponsor or present at one of these monthly events to reach out to her directly at theresa.alvarez@mhagc.org to talk about the possibilities.
