Sharing the Gift That Became Operation Santa Claus 2025
By Vanessa Vestergaard, Contributing Writer

As the holiday season comes to a close, Operation Santa Claus 2025 brings with it a time of reflection and deep gratitude for the many faces in our community who joined—or continued to stand behind—the joyful mission of Operation Santa Claus. Through their compassionate thinking put into action, Mental Health America of Greenville County was able to deliver over 400 gift bags in 2025. Each contribution, whether through our collection boxes or our Amazon wish list, was generous and thoughtful, spreading joy that will reach well into the year ahead.
Operation Santa Claus 2025 highlighted the immense connections that support this program and advocate for our mission: to help support, strengthen, and save lives through services that positively impact mental health. We supported and strengthened lives by first asking what the needs were for those who are unhoused and those living in supported housing. Together, we then worked to meet those needs by collecting essential items such as first aid kits, sweatshirts, hats and gloves, socks, blankets, and much-needed hygiene supplies. After Operation Santa Claus 2025, we can truly say we made a positive impact on the mental health of many individuals—those recovering with a dual diagnosis, those who are unhoused, and those who simply needed a gift with their name on it as a reminder that they are seen and valued in our community.
One word that best describes Operation Santa Claus 2025 is uplifting. We uplifted spirits—both givers and receivers—by standing together and bringing our community closer. I offer my deepest thanks to the uplifting spirit of our new and continuing community partners. Through their participation, they helped create a shared sense of hope for all, especially for those who are alone and living with chronic mental health conditions.
I would also like to thank the many social workers and resident case managers who listen, care, and provide community mental health support alongside Mental Health America of Greenville County—especially the mental health centers in Greenville and Anderson Counties, supported housing residences, ACT and unhoused programs, and the hospitals of Marshall Pickens, Phoenix Center, and Carolina Center of Behavioral Health. Through your work and ours, we continue to build a stronger community.
Finally, as I pack away the last box, I am filled with awe at how Operation Santa Claus came together once again and how it continues to be a passion for me and so many others. I am grateful to have met new friends and partners in a community rich with resources and organizations like Mental Health America of Greenville County, all standing side by side to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health.
Thank you all for being the spirit behind Operation Santa Claus. And yes—I truly look forward to Operation Santa Claus 2026. It will be another year of uplifting one another and celebrating our community, and that feels like one of the best Operation Santa Claus seasons yet.
