Welcome to Mental Health America of Greenville County
Mental Health America of Greenville County (MHAGC) is one of the more than 320 local affiliates of the national Mental Health America, the country’s leading nonprofit dedicated to helping ALL people live mentally healthier lives. Our mission is promoting positive mental health through advocacy, education and service. We accomplish our mission with a full continuum of services listed below.
Programs and Services
CRISISline and TEENline – 24/7 crisis telephone intervention service that receives over 1,000 calls a month. These lines help people who need a safe personal connection with whom they can share anxieties, fears and despair, and learn about resources available in our community. This nationally recognized service is certified by the American Association of Sociology and provides ongoing support to the United Way, Greenville Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center, Graduate Greenville, the Piedmont Center for Mental Health Services and the Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Mental Health Center.
Reassurance Line – provides support, encouragement and a community connection to 24 clients of Greenville County mental health centers by trained peer counselors who understand the challenges of mental illness and recovery.
Mental Health Matters - educational program trained over 2,000 gatekeepers in QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer), a suicide prevention program that identifies children, youth and adults who struggle with emotional turmoil. MHM includes depression screenings, lunch and learns and community seminars and workshops and a comprehensive resource center available to the community.
Survivors of Suicide (SOS) – A survivor led program and peer support groups that assist grieving families and children.
Consumer Support (Representative Payee) Services - helping 197 individuals in Greenville and 20 in Anderson with severe mental illness maintain their independence with financial management.
Operation Santa Claus - MHAGC packaged and distributed almost 435 adult gift packages in 2008 to clients of the mental health centers and housing projects. Additional gifts were sent to the MHASC office for distribution to patients in state hospital facilities.
Affordable housing and a group home residence - Victor Village, a 20 single unit apartment complex in Greer and Hillcrest Heights, a 12 unit apartment complex in Simpsonville, provide independent living to individuals suffering from mental illness disabilities. McKinney House in Mauldin is a safe group home environment to 10 individuals who are deaf and mentally ill.
Mental Health America of Greenville County is a United Way partner agency and is recognized as having proven results in the fight to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health and support services for those struggling with mental illness.
The Road of Life Pendant
This piece was inspired by the bumpy road that people with mental illnesses and their families sometimes have to travel. While the path is often rough with the occasional pothole, the journey is always a precious one.
The material I chose to work with is reticulated silver. The silver starts off as a flat sheet. When heat from a torch is applied to the silver, it begins to rise in unpredictable peaks and valleys. The interesting part of this process is that there is no way to make two just alike. To me, this is very much like the road of life. Nobody's journey is the same, but is always beautiful.
Note: The price of the pendant is $350.00. The designer donates $100.00 back to MHA of Greenville County for every pendant ordered.
Your donation will directly impact our CRISISline services; suicide prevention programs; childrens’ education and grief recovery programs; Survivors of Suicide support groups; depression screenings and community education.
Contributions to Mental Health America of Greenville County, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes.
