Dear Friends,

Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Month! A time to reflect on the importance of emotional well-being, meaningful connection, and caring for ourselves and one another. As spring turns to summer, many families and individuals find themselves navigating seasons of transition: students preparing for the end of the school year, graduations marking new beginnings, longer days bringing new energy and opportunities, and families balancing busy schedules while planning for the months ahead. These moments can bring excitement and hope, but they can also bring stress, uncertainty, and emotional exhaustion. At Mental Health America of Greenville County, we believe mental wellness grows through connection, compassion, and community support. This month, we are proud to continue sharing resources, encouraging conversations, and creating opportunities for people to feel seen, supported, and empowered.

With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we are highlighting a simple but meaningful idea: strength grows through connection. Everyone’s version of a “good day” looks different—and all of them are valid. This month encourages reflection on what well-being means to you, small steps to support your mental and physical health, and the power of reaching out to others. Whether it’s checking in with yourself, connecting with someone you trust, or accessing available resources, you don’t have to do it alone. Curious how to create more “good days” in your own life? Read the full article to explore simple ways to build strength through connection.

On any given weekday, millions of Americans spend more waking hours at work than at home—making the workplace a powerful influence on overall well-being. While Mental Health Awareness Month often highlights personal habits, this article explores how workplace culture plays an equally critical role. From access to care and crisis support to proactive prevention strategies and a culture of belonging, organizations have the opportunity to shape environments where employees can truly thrive. When workplaces invest in mental health, the impact reaches far beyond productivity; it strengthens people, teams, and communities. Want to see what meaningful workplace support really looks like? On May 9, Mental Health America of Greenville County hosted a special event for our housing residents focused on the connection between clean living spaces, safety, and mental wellness. Residents received fun “spring cleaning” bags filled with helpful cleaning supplies and resources to support healthy habits at home. During the event, we talked about how maintaining a clean and organized space can help reduce stress, improve mood, and create a greater sense of comfort and stability. We also shared practical tips and community resources related to home safety, wellness, and self-care. It was a meaningful opportunity to encourage connection, independence, and the importance of creating spaces where people can truly feel safe and supported. See more from this event.
As we continue through Mental Health Awareness Month, we invite you to stay connected with MHAGC and help us continue our mission to Support, Strengthen, and Save Lives.
